Who this service is for

A residential move is any move where the cargo is a household. That covers more situations than people expect, and each one carries its own version of the same questions: how much is there, how far, how many stairs, and where can the truck park.

  • Homeowners moving between houses, townhomes or single-family homes
  • Renters moving apartments, condos and co-ops
  • Families upsizing, downsizing or relocating for work
  • Seniors moving into smaller homes or assisted living
  • Students moving in and out of dorms and shared rentals
  • Realtors and stagers who need furniture placed, moved or cleared
  • Households moving part of a home into storage or a container

What a full-service residential move includes

A full-service move means we bring the crew and the truck, and you do not carry furniture. In practice that is:

  • A professional crew sized to the job
  • The moving truck and transport between addresses
  • Padding and wrapping for furniture before it leaves your home
  • Careful handling through doorways, stairwells and corridors
  • Loading at the origin and unloading at the destination
  • Placement in the rooms you want, not left in a pile by the door

What is quoted separately

Four things sit outside the standard move, and each one is priced into the estimate rather than assumed: disassembly and reassembly of the pieces that will not clear a doorway or a stair turn, furniture removal, a storage stop between the two addresses, and a second destination. Tell us about any of them when you request the estimate, so the number you get covers the whole job.

What is not included

The estimate covers the crew, the truck and the work described on this page. It does not cover cleaning, and it does not cover specialist work such as piano moving or hoarding clean-outs unless we have looked at the job and agreed to it in writing first.

How a residential move works, step by step

Nothing here is complicated, but the order matters — most moving-day surprises come from something that was not asked about in week one.

  1. Tell us about the moveAddresses, floors, elevator or stairs, where the truck can park, the size of the home, and the date. Phone, text or the form on the homepage all work.
  2. Get the estimateWe come back with a written estimate built from those answers. If something about the building or the access is unclear, we would rather ask a second question now than re-quote later.
  3. Lock in the date and the detailsOnce the date is set, we confirm the crew size and start time, and you deal with the building's requirements — dock, elevator reservation, certificate of insurance — if there are any.
  4. Prepare what only you can prepareEmpty the drawers of loose items, set aside valuables and documents you are keeping with you, and tell us which pieces need disassembly.
  5. Move dayThe crew pads and wraps furniture, loads, drives, unloads and places. You walk the destination before they leave, and anything that is not right gets fixed while the crew is still there.

What your estimate depends on

Residential moves are not priced from a table of house sizes. They are priced from the details below — and any one of them can move the number more than the distance does.

Move size Volume of furniture and boxes, and how many crew members and what size truck it takes to move it in a sensible day.
Distance Across town, across the DMV, or out of the area — drive time, tolls and any overnight requirement.
Stairs and elevator access Floor number, number of flights, stairwell turns, whether there is a service elevator, and whether the elevator is booked.
Parking and truck access Dock, driveway, loading zone, permit-restricted block or a long carry from the nearest legal space.
Number and bulk of large items Wardrobes, sectionals, dining tables, mattresses and appliances set how much truck space the job needs and how long loading takes — a count of bedrooms will not tell us that.
Timing Weekend and end-of-month dates, restricted building hours, and how much notice you can give.
Awkward items Pianos, safes, aquariums, gym equipment, large glass and anything requiring disassembly.
Extra stops and storage A storage unit pickup, a second destination, or time in storage between addresses.

We do not publish a rate card, because a rate card is how people end up with a surprise on moving day. Request a free estimate on 703-495-7005 or through the form on our homepage.

Residential moving questions, answered honestly

The things customers ask us most before booking a home move.

Do drawers need to be empty on moving day?

Empty the drawers of loose, heavy or breakable items — tools, cutlery, ornaments, liquids. Clothes in a dresser can often stay, but tell us if the piece is old, fragile or has a drawer that sticks, and we will treat it accordingly. Anything loose inside a drawer tends to end up at the back of it after a drive.

Do you take furniture apart and put it back together?

Beds, tables and anything that will not clear a doorway or a stair turn are handled as part of the move — but tell us in advance which pieces need it, because disassembly and reassembly change how long the job takes and how we load the truck. Keep the hardware in a labelled bag and hand it to the crew.

Can you move a piano, a safe or a very heavy single item?

Sometimes, and we will tell you honestly. Pianos, gun safes, large aquariums and heavy gym equipment need the right equipment and a route that can carry the weight, and some need a specialist. Send a photo and the floor details when you enquire and we will say whether it is a job we should take.

How far ahead should I book?

Weekends and the end of the month fill first, and any move that needs a building's elevator reservation or a certificate of insurance needs extra lead time. Earlier is easier — but if your date is close, call 703-495-7005 and we will tell you plainly whether we can cover it.

What will the crew carry, and what should stay with me?

The crew carries your furniture, appliances and boxed goods out of one address, into the other, and places them in the rooms you point to. Documents, cash, jewellery, medication, keys and pets should travel with you in your own car instead — partly because they are easier to keep track of that way, and partly because nobody else should be responsible for them. If you are not sure whether something belongs on the truck, ask when you request the estimate.

What about insurance and coverage?

Reliable Movers Enterprise operates under USDOT 4474220. Coverage questions should be answered in writing against your specific move rather than in a general sentence on a web page — ask when you request your estimate and we will put the details in writing with it.

Where we work

Home moves are most of what we do, and the address changes the work more than the inventory does. These are the six areas we run crews in every week.
