Labor-Only Moving Help
You have the truck, the container or the storage unit. What you do not have is a crew who know how to get a sofa around a stairwell without taking the paint off the wall. Labor-only service is exactly that arrangement: our movers, your truck, the lifting done properly. Reliable Movers Enterprise works across Alexandria, Arlington, Northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC. Call 703-495-7005.

Who labor-only moving is for
People book labor-only help for a very specific reason: they have already solved the transport problem and the remaining problem is people. That includes:
- Renters and homeowners who hired a rental truck and need it loaded properly
- Customers with a moving container (U-Box or similar) that has to be loaded and braced
- Anyone moving into, out of or between storage units
- Households that need unloading only, after driving the load themselves
- Seniors and stagers who need furniture moved or rearranged inside a home
- People with one heavy, awkward item and no realistic way to lift it
It is also the right service when you are moving a small amount, when your building charges for a dock and you only need an hour of help, or when a full-service truck would be more than the job requires.
What is included — and what is not
The honest split is straightforward, and it is worth being precise about it before you book.
Included
- A professional crew booked for the work, with the crew size agreed in advance
- Padding and wrapping for furniture before it goes on your truck or into your container
- Loading and stacking, with weight and bracing planned so the load travels safely
- Unloading and placement in the rooms you want
- In-home furniture moving and rearranging
Not included
- The truck, container or storage unit itself
- Driving — transport is yours in a labor-only job
- Fuel, tolls, rental fees and storage costs
- Any work that is not on the agreed list — the crew moves, loads, unloads and places, and that is the whole scope
If you would rather we supplied the truck and the driving as well, that is a full-service move — see our residential moving page.
How labor-only help works, step by step
The more we know before the crew arrives, the less time you pay for them to work it out on the doorstep.
- Tell us what we are fillingTruck size, container type, or storage unit — and whether we are loading, unloading or both.
- Tell us about the accessFloor, stairs or elevator, and the distance from the door to where the vehicle can park. This is the single biggest factor in how long the job takes.
- Tell us about the heavy and awkward itemsSofas, beds, dressers, appliances, gym equipment, anything that needs disassembly. Photos help more than descriptions.
- Agree the crew and the windowWe confirm how many movers and how the hours are booked, so nobody is guessing on the day.
- Load, or unload, and placeFurniture is wrapped, the load is stacked with weight in mind, and at the other end it goes into the rooms you point to.
What your labor-only estimate depends on
Labor-only work is priced from time and people, and these are the things that change both.
For an honest number, tell us the truck size, the floor and the parking distance. 703-495-7005, or use the estimate form on our homepage and note that you need labor only.
Labor-only questions, answered honestly
What customers ask before booking a crew without a truck.
Do you bring a truck with labor-only service?
No — that is the difference. Labor-only means you provide the truck, container or storage unit and the transport, and our crew does the lifting, loading, unloading and placement. If you want us to bring the truck and do the driving, book a full-service move instead.
Can you load a moving container or a POD?
Yes. Loading a container well is a different skill from loading a truck — the load has to be braced for a road journey and stacked so the weight is over the right part of the floor. Tell us the container type and size when you enquire.
How many movers do I need?
As a rule of thumb: two for a studio or one-bedroom, three for a two-to-three-bedroom, and more for a larger home, a walk-up with several flights, or a load with heavy and awkward pieces. The right answer depends on stairs and carry distance, which is exactly what we ask about first.
Can you just unload, not load?
Yes. Loading only, unloading only, and both are all available. Unloading-only jobs are common after a long drive you did yourself. We will confirm the crew size and the timings with your quote so there are no assumptions on either side.
How long does loading take?
It depends on the truck, the access and how much has to come out of the home — a one-bedroom load close to the door is a different job from a third-floor walk-up with a long carry. We will give you an honest estimate of the time when we quote, and tell you what would make it shorter.
Do you help with in-home furniture moving, not just trucks?
Yes. Rearranging furniture within a home, moving a heavy piece between floors, and single-item moves are all labor-only work, and they come up often for seniors, stagers and anyone who has just bought something that will not fit up the stairs alone.
Need a crew, not a truck?
Call 703-495-7005 with the truck or container size, the floor and the parking distance, and we will tell you what the job takes.
Where we work
Crew-only work goes wherever your truck, container or storage unit is. These are the six areas we cover without needing to know the destination until you do.
