Movers in Prince William County, Virginia
Out here a move is decided by the ground between the truck and the front door. The house may sit on a street that is still being built, behind a driveway the truck cannot enter, in a townhouse court where every visitor space is taken by nine in the morning. Reliable Movers Enterprise works the whole county — Woodbridge, Dale City, Lake Ridge, Gainesville, Haymarket, Bristow, Nokesville, Dumfries and Occoquan, plus the independent cities of Manassas and Manassas Park — on 25+ years of moving experience, family-owned since 2016. The outer-suburb move, and why it behaves differently
Inside the Beltway, a move is usually settled by the building: the elevator, the dock, the permit window. Prince William County is settled by the site. A new-build estate in Bristow, a townhouse court in Lake Ridge and a 1970s rambler in Dale City have almost nothing in common except that the crew will walk further than the customer pictured, and that walk is the clock.
Woodbridge, Dale City and Lake Ridge
The Route 1 and I-95 corridor holds most of the county's townhouses and rental communities. Shared parking courts, visitor bays that empty by mid-morning, and front doors set back behind a garage all push the carry outward. A Saturday here is not the same job as a Tuesday, because the same court that is empty at noon is full by nine.
Gainesville, Haymarket, Bristow and Nokesville
New construction asks questions older neighbourhoods never raise. A street in a half-finished subdivision may be unmarked, unfinished, or closed to heavy vehicles; a driveway may be gravel, steep, or narrow enough that a truck damages a retaining wall getting in. We ask what the surface is and where the truck can legally stand before the day, because a truck that cannot get in turns a short move into a long carry.
Dumfries and Occoquan
Both are older than the subdivisions around them. Occoquan's streets are narrow and sloping, its houses historic and its doorways small; Dumfries mixes older cottages with newer townhouses. Expect stairs, a short carry and nowhere for a second vehicle to wait.
Quantico and the military household
Quantico brings a different shape of move: orders, a date set by someone else, and often a departure before the destination is settled. That usually means a storage unit or a container between the two addresses, and it means the handover matters as much as the loading. Tell us the reporting date when you call and we will tell you honestly what is realistic.
Distance is the simple part. The carry is the hard part.
Customers comparing estimates assume the drive is what makes an outer-suburb move expensive. Usually it is not. What adds hours is the walk: a hundred feet of lawn, a slope, a gravel drive, a gate too narrow for a hand truck, three steps at the porch and then a full flight inside. Multiply that by a four-bedroom house and the crew that emptied an Arlington condo by lunch is still working at four.
So we ask about the ground before we quote. Where can the truck stand, legally and physically? Is the driveway shared? Is the street finished? Are there steps at the door as well as stairs inside? Those four answers tell us more about your day than the mileage does.
What we look at in a long-carry house
- Split-level and bi-level plans, where every piece changes floor twice
- Garages used as storage, which usually means a second load from a space with no clear aisle
- Sheds, deck boxes and pool equipment that were never part of the original plan
- Storage units in Woodbridge or Manassas, collected on the way to the new address
- Driveways long enough to turn a truck around, and driveways that are not
Who moves with us in Prince William County
Most of our county work is a household changing how much space it needs, not how far it travels. Growth, downsizing, a job that moved, a lease that ended.
- Families trading a Lake Ridge townhouse for a house in Bristow
- Military households moving on orders, with a storage stop in between
- Seniors leaving a two-storey colonial for a one-level home or an apartment
- Renters rotating between communities along the Route 1 corridor
- Commuters relocating closer to a new job, in either direction
- Home-based businesses moving stock, desks and equipment
- Realtors and stagers clearing or furnishing a listing
- Two households combining into one address

All three are available across the county and in Manassas and Manassas Park. Nothing is priced from a list — the estimate follows the details of your move, and it costs nothing to ask.
Alongside those: loading and unloading, senior moves, college moves, storage and container work, rental and eviction move-outs, furniture removal, single-item pickups and extra stops on the way through the county.
What actually moves a Prince William County estimate
A county this wide does not have one price any more than it has one kind of house. These are the things that change the number, and they are all questions you can answer on the phone.
Send us the address, the floor, the walk and roughly what you own, and we will tell you what the day takes. A free estimate is one call away on 703-495-7005, or use the estimate form on our homepage.
Before you book a Prince William County move
A long carry and an unfinished street raise questions that a city move never does. These are the ones worth settling on the phone.
Does a long carry cost more in Prince William County?
A long carry is time, and time is what an estimate is built from, so it shows up in the number — but it is not a separate penalty added at the end. We ask where the truck can stand before we quote, which means the walk from the street to the door is already inside the estimate rather than a surprise on the day.
Our street is unfinished and the builder controls access. Can you still move us?
Usually, but we need to know before the morning. Unfinished roads, construction traffic and gates that open on a schedule change where a truck can wait and how far the crew carries. Tell us what the builder or site office allows, and whether a smaller vehicle is the only way in.
Is Manassas part of Prince William County?
No. Manassas and Manassas Park are independent cities surrounded by the county, which is why you will see them listed separately on maps. We work in all three, and the rules that matter to a move — street parking, association rules, building access — differ by address rather than by the county line.
We are a military family with a reporting date. How does that work?
It works like any move with a hard deadline, and it is worth calling early. If the destination is not settled yet, a storage unit or a container in between is normal, and we can load into storage and deliver later. Bring your reporting date and your orders timeline to the call.
Do you move households from Prince William County into DC or Maryland?
Yes — direction does not change the service. Plenty of our work runs from the outer suburbs into Alexandria, Arlington, the District or Prince George's County, and the reverse. The other end is where a DC permit window or a Maryland alley becomes part of the plan.
How much notice do you need for a weekend move out here?
More than for a weekday. Weekends, the end of the month and the summer are the crowded dates, and a long carry takes longer than the same house with a short one. Call 703-495-7005 with your date and we will tell you plainly whether it is open.
Other areas we serve
The county is wide and the crew travels it constantly. If your address is not on this page, it is still covered — these are the six areas we work most often.
